The economics of a housing development lead to floor plans that have more to do with marketing than livability or even build-ability. This family wanted to reclaim the upstairs square footage lost to an unlit double-height space and knock down a ground-floor dividing wall to connect the living areas from the TV to the kitchen, all while retaining the existing shell to appease the Homeowners Association.
